Markings: The right side of the frame is marked “DAN WESSON FIREARMS NORWICH, NY. U.S.A. / 2001021”. The top of the chamber is marked “10MM” and the right side is marked “MATCH”. The left side of the slide is marked “Bruin”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a green fiber-optic insert with a tritium ring, and is dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a Bomar-style target sight with a square notch, serrated rear face, and two tritium lamps; it is dovetailed to the rear of the slide. The front lamp is green and the rear lamps are amber. The lamps glow and are easily acquired in low light.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece burgundy and black G10 panels with raised square texturing and smooth borders. There are no major defects, just light handling marks. Overall, the grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit show is snug. The trigger is crisp. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.

Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the U.S. Military all the way up to the early 1980’s; nearly every American has seen one on TV, in a movie or in their grandparent’s collection. The design is so legendary; hundreds of other manufacturers have followed its path and tried to improve upon the design, but without much change to the overall operation. This is a Dan Wesson Bruin with a host of upgrades such as a beavertail memory bump grip safety, serrated trigger with overtravel adjustment, skeletonized hammer, Bomar style rear sight, night sights, angled front and rear slide serrations, and an extended frame safety. Most notably this pistol is chambered for 10mm Auto and has a sexyt tri-cut Longside, a plain badass combination. This is a beautiful 1911 pistol with tasteful upgrades that simply showcase the brilliance of a design going strong over 100 years after its invention.
