Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked “WARNING-READ INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR SAFE OPERATION-FREE FROM / REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.” followed by “300 WIN. MAG.” and is also marked with an inspectors mark and “CP 31”. The right side of the barrel is marked with magnaflux, proof, and test marks at the breech. The bolt is matched to the rifle and the bottom is etched “4974”.

Sights / Optics: There are no iron sights on this rifle. The top of the receiver has two pairs of empty drilled and tapped holes.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is checkered walnut with a pistol grip and fluted straight comb. There are a few minor compressions and little light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The most noticeable wear is on the forend at the front. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the brown rubber skipline checkered Remington buttpad. The buttpad has no major defects, just light handling wear. The stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There are few small specks of faint surface erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered little marks through the finish on the bottom metal assembly and on the bolt knob. There are a few little marks on the barrel. There are light handling marks. The markings are strong and easily read. The screw heads are undamaged. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington 700 needs no introduction. It has been one of the most popular bolt action rifles in America for decades, seeing use in target shooting, hunting, and law enforcement; it has been produced in almost any caliber and configuration you could ask for. This example is chambered in .300 Win. Mag. making this a great option for long range shooting or big game hunting. One of America’s most deadly snipers, Chris Kyle, used a rifle based on the 700 action chambered for the .300 Win. Mag.; he had this to say about the caliber, “It shoots like a laser. Anything from a thousand yards and out, you’re just plain nailing it. On closer targets, you don’t have to worry about too much correction for your come-ups. You can dial in your 500-yard dope and still hit a target from 100–700 hundred yards without worrying too much about making minute adjust¬ments.”. While we don’t think you will be bringing a 700 Classic Limited Edition set in a beautiful American Walnut stock into combat soon, if the .300 Win. Mag. was good enough for him, it will do just fine on your next hunt or target shooting outing. The caliber in combination with the relatively maneuverable 24″ barrel, good bore, strong mechanics, and high condition make this a perfect rifle to add to a Remington collection and take out to the range.
