Markings: The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number. The right side of the chamber is marked “CAL 40 S & W / 513MX50306”. The right side of the barrel lug is marked with a “* / Z” inspection mark and a Belgian proof mark, the left side is marked “2”. The left side of the frame is marked “FNMI, Columbia, SC”. The left trigger guard bow is marked with a Belgian proof mark. The right side of the slide is marked “FN HERSTAL BELGIUM” and the left side is marked with a circled “FN” logo. The bottom of the firing pin housing is marked with a Belgian proof mark. The left side of the hammer and slide stop are marked “RDIH”.
Barrel Length: 4 5/8” Custom Ported
Sights / Optics: Trijicon night sights are installed. The front sight is a blade with a tritium lamp that is dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch with two tritium lamps that is dovetailed to the rear of the slide. The lamps hold a decent glow in low light environments.
The original sights are also included and are of similar configuration but instead have white squares rather than tritium lamps.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered aftermarket black panels. The checkering shows light handling wear. The right panel shows some faint discoloration in the checkering. There are no chips or cracks. The panels rate in about Fine-Plus condition. The front and back strap have been custom stippled.
Also included are the original checkered plastic panels with smooth borders. The smooth borders show some scattered handling marks and light nicks and the checkering is sharp.
Type of Finish: Chrome
Finish Originality: Original to Customization. The included invoice from Accurate Plating & Weaponry Inc. states the finish as Brushed Chrome.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, only faint fouling in the grooves.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its current metal finish. No significant wear is present, only light handling marks and minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition as custom finished.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This pistol has a myriad of customized parts such as an added beavertail, custom trigger, and custom slide stop. The safety has been deactivated and no magazine disconnect safety is present. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in its original serial matching box with paperwork including a manual and invoices for the customization work, test shells, one 10-round magazine, a cleaning kit, a safety lock, and the original parts.
Our Assessment: On display here is a Customized FN Hi-Power pistol, manufactured in Belgium by FN and imported by FNMI. A previous owner took the liberty of tricking this thing out with custom work done by APW Cogan Custom. Some of these custom features include an added beavertail, installation of a custom C&S trigger, brushed chrome finish, ported barrel and slide, improved slide-to-frame fit, and stippled front and back strap. The quality of the work is evident through appearance as well as handling. The trigger breaks crisply with no perceptible creep. On top of all of that, this pistol comes with its original case with original parts. Any winning bidder would be lucky to show this one off at the range. Please see our photos and good luck!
