Our Assessment: This SIG Sauer P229 Sport is a single and double-action semi-automatic pistol chambered for .357 SIG cartridges. The gun was initially manufactured from 1998-2000 and was reintroduced in 2003 before being ultimately discontinued in 2005. The P229 is an upgrade to the P228, being an almost identical compact firearm which is popular among military and law enforcement operatives. Developed specifically for the US market with both German and US-made parts, the P229 features a heavier slide to tolerate more powerful cartridges than the P228. The Sport variant was made with both a single and double-action (like this specimen) and a single action only variant. The gun’s distinguishing feature is the compensator installed onto the barrel, unfortunately because the barrel is threaded the gun can not be transferred in a number of jurisdictions (your local laws apply). The Sport line by SIG Sauer were custom made for superior performance and they make great target pistols. Although this gun was made in Germany, and has German nitro proofs, there is no date code marked on the gun. This particular specimen is aesthetically pleasing and remains mechanically sound. Good luck on your bid!
