At the buttplate the wood has a dry, weathered appearance. The checkering is generally well-defined, the most notable checkering wear is in the left of the grip. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP is 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the plate. The plate has gone to white at the edges and there is slight surface oxidation throughout the smooth areas. Overall, the stock is in Very Good-to-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is well-defined. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 92% of its finish. The bolt handle has light surface oxidation, the bolt itself has light operational wear. The receiver has just minor thinning on a few edges. The barrel has scattered light nicks and scuffs, the most notable cluster being between the barrel boss and the front sight. There is a bit of moderate finish loss at the barrel tip. The markings are clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall, the rifle is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: A brown leather sling is included.
Our Assessment: This is a lovely Pre-64 Winchester Model 70 rifle made in 1940. This Carbine version has a 20” barrel chambered in .270 Winchester Centerfire, making it ideal for hunting most game up to deer. The rifle is in overall Fine condition with wear primarily in the stock consistent with repeated use in the field. The bore is clean and the mechanics are strong. Good luck and happy bidding!
