Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “—WINCHESTER ® MODEL 70 XTR SPORTER – 303 H&H MAGNUM – / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”. The left side of the receiver has “WINCHESTER / —TRADE MARK—”. The right of the chamber ring is marked with the serial number, “G1891551”.

Sights/ Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped, it is mounted with two scope rings that are mounted with Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm scope (serial number 114686F). The scope has a sharp duplex reticle and has clear glass. The scope has some light handling marks, but it remains in Very Good-Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stock is one-piece wood featuring a checkered forend, black-capped semi-pistol grip, fluted Monte-Carlo style comb with cheek-piece, and an aftermarket Pachmayr black rubber butt-pad. There The stock has some light handling marks, nicks and scuffs. Notably, there are a few light scratches and scuffs on the right side on the forend on the checkering, some scattered light handling marks on the left side of the semi-pistol grip which are concentrated in the checkering and a light patch of wear on the right side of the butt just above the toe. The checkering remains mostly sharp. The LOP is 14” from the trigger to the rear end of the butt-pad. The butt-pad has some light handling marks. Overall, the stock is in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling. There is some stubborn fouling in the bore.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. There is some light finish loss around the muzzle, a light patch of wear on the top of the barrel under the front end of the scope and a few light handling marks on the bottom of the barrel scattered between the muzzle and forend. There are few additional light handling marks, nicks and scuffs. The markings remain clear. Overall, the rifle is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: There is the aforementioned scope (described in the sights/optics section) and a “HUNTER” marked brown leather sling included with the rifle. The sling features a textured leather shoulder pad. It has some light handling wear and verdigris has developed around the brass parts. Overall, the sling is in Very Good condition.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years; reliable, robust, and accurate. This rifle is mounted with a quality Leupold Vari-X III scope and a utilitarian brown leather sling for superior handling.
