Our Assessment: This is a set of Valmet Oy manufactured over/under shotguns which were made under contract for Savage Arms. Valmet is a Finnish company whose origins can be traced back to the late 18th century. The iteration of the company that manufactured these shotguns was created in 1946 when a number of Finnish state owned metal workshops were merged to form the Valtion Metallitehtaat (State Metalworks), among its early projects was the manufacture of items that served as war reparations to the Soviet Union after WWII. In 1951 the company became Valmet Oy and a diverse selection of items including these shotguns. The company was never specialized as an arms manufacturer but the shotgun’s manufactured by the company were produced to a high standard. These shotguns both have some light handling marks, but they remain both aesthetically pleasing and mechanically sound. The pair is especially nice because they have different gauges (12 and 20 gauge) and chokes, thus you can use them in a variety of situations. They should prove a worthy addition to any collection. Good luck on your bid!
