Markings: The left side of the shank is marked “CAL.416 / RIGBY”. The left side of the chamber ring is marked “A296870 / MADE IN / CZECH REPUBLIC”. The left side of the receiver is marked “CZ 550 SAFARI CLASSICS”, the CZ logo, and “CZ-USA, KANSAS CITY, KS”. The right side of the chamber ring and receiver are marked with a Czech nitro proof and the “07” date code. The bolt is marked “990”. The front of the bolt handle is marked “59” in a box and “2”.

Barrel Length: 25” Magna Ported

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade in a fore-to-aft slot atop a checkered ramped riser that is banded to the barrel. The bead is missing from the blade. The riser is slotted for a hood that is not present. The rear sight is an express sight with a fixed front V-notch with a white line aim guide. There are two additional flip ip leaves that are marked 200 and 300 respectively. The top of the receiver is grooved for mounting an optic (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered wood with a schnabel tipped forend, pistol grip, fluted crescent comb, cheek piece, rear sling stud, and a textured CZ black rubber buttpad. The front sling stud has been removed and the space has been filled. There are some scattered light draglines and shallow compressions, notably on the sides ahead of the wrist. There are a few nicked checkers on the left side of the grip checkering. The checkering is generally sharp throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8” & 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad and wood, respectively. The recoil pad shows faint rub wear. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, just some faint fouling on the lands.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The barrel and receiver have turned an even beautiful plum hue. There are a few faint nicks throughout the metal. There is light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is light with a small amount of creep. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: CZ is known for its high-quality, reliable sporting and hunting rifle. This Model 550 Safari Classics is a testament to that with a light trigger that breaks clean and crisp and a bright bore. This is a big game hunter, chambered for .416 Rigby. The .416 Rigby is a rifle cartridge designed in 1911 by London based gunmaker John Rigby & Company, for hunting dangerous game. It is the first cartridge to use a bullet of .416 inch diameter.
