Action Type: Top-Break Dual Trigger Side By Side (SxS) with External Hammers and Extractor.

Markings: The right and left lock plates are marked “MORTIMER & SON”. The bottom tang is marked “7025”. The water table is marked with two crowned “V”s. The top of the barrel rib is marked “MORTIMER & SON EDINBURGH”. The underside of the left barrel is marked “12B / NOT FOR BALL / 14M” along with a crowned “GP”, and “V”. The underside of the right barrel is marked with the crowned “GP, V” and “13”. There is light scroll engraving on the receiver and hammers.

Barrel Length: 29 ¾”

Choke: The right bore at the muzzle measures .725”. The left bore at the muzzle measures .700”.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a brass bead front sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut. The forend has many compression marks and some white coloration in the checkering. The buttstock is of straight English style. There are light compression marks scattered throughout. There are no cracks or losses. There are two natural looking holes in the top of the horn buttplate. The LOP measures 14 ¼” from the front of the forward trigger to the back of the serrated horn buttplate. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue and Case Colored

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright. There is some scattered erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 50% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning on the barrels. The Damascus pattern is very defined. It looks beautiful. The receiver is mostly faded to in-the-white with some case colored finish below the top-break lever. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun.

Our Assessment: This is a very fine Damascus Steel Mortimer & Son English shotgun which is still sharply engraved. Some spots of case coloring are still visible on the shotgun. It features a straight English stock and a horn buttplate. The condition Is Very Good and is amazing for its age. Mortimer & Son was located in Edinburg, England. It is always fun to track down these old shotguns and pinpoint where they came from. In 1938 the Mortimer & Son business merged with John Dickenson. This shotgun has travelled far, passed through many hands throughout the years and has maintained its great condition awaiting the next appreciative collector.
