Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 57 is a bolt-action rifle chambered for .22 LR rounds. The rifle hit the market in 1927, but that was not a particularly good time to introduce a product. Two years later “Black Tuesday” hit Wall Street which ushered in the Great Depression and like most companies Winchester struggled to remain solvent. Sales for the Model 57 were adversely affected and the rifle was phased out in 1936 (18,281 units were manufactured in total). Although this specimen has some handling wear, it remains a well made utilitarian plinker that is mechanically sound. Good luck on your bid!
