There are several scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches with a few more notable dings in the buttstock. There are a few tiny losses around the front edges of the wrist and at the heel on the left. There is a crack in the left-front of the wrist near the top. The checkering ranges from well defined to worn, but visible. The LOP measures 14 1/2″ and 13 5/8? from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the recoil pad, 13 7/8″ and 12 3/4″ to the back of the wood. The pad shows light wear and discoloration, but is still fairly supple. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2?, drop at heel 2 1/2?. The cast is about neutral. Overall, the stocks are in Good-plus condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright. There is some light erosion in the left bore in front of the forcing cone and infrequent spots of minor erosion in the right bore.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 75% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. Most of the balance is in evenly scattered minor oxidation. There are a few spots of solid erosion. There is light finish wear at the muzzles and a few scattered light nicks and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The safety engages automatically when the action is opened. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 21 was their deluxe side by side shotgun, made to compete with the likes of Parker and A.H. Fox in the American shotgun market. The shotgun’s initial production run from 1930 through 1957 yielded approximately 16,000 guns. The standard grade came with select grade walnut stocks and Skeet, Trap, Tournament and Duck grades were also available. This is a standard grade shotgun made in 1934. It has a manual safety, extractor, dual triggers, and a checkered pistol grip stock with a splinter forend. The 26” barrels are choked Modified and Cylinder, making for a fast-handling gun suitable for upland birds. The shotgun is in about Very Good condition with 75% of its original metal finish remaining, good bores, strong mechanics, and wear in its stocks consistent for use in the field. The Winchester Model 21 shotguns are very collectable, sought after for both their variety of configurations and their quality as a shooter. This shotgun certainly has more years left for the field, but would be a nice addition to a Winchester collection missing the Model 21. Please see our photos and good luck!
