Markings: The barrel is marked “.30-06”, an Ulm Nitro proof mark, “IC”and the ULM Buckhorn proof. The barrel ring is marked with the Ulm Nitro proof and “01978”. The right side of the receiver is marked “HK INC. ARL VA 22201 / HECKLER & KOCK GMBH / OBERNDORF/N MADE IN GERMANY” and “Mod. HK 940”
Barrel Length: The barrel length is 21”, 23.75” to the end of the muzzle brake
Sights / Optics: The front sight is blued blade pinned to a checkered ramp which is fixed to the muzzle brake and the rear sight is flip-up square notch leaf dovetail set to the receiver. The top of the receiver has rectangular holes which receive the H&K scope mounts.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The checkered pistol grip walnut stock has a Schnabel forend, a right handed cheek piece and a shotgun style butt. The checkering shows mild flattening from use and the stocks show only very light handling marks. The grip cap has some small marks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the brown vented recoil pad, which has scattered mars from use and is in Fine condition. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows very little signs of use. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes in its original Styrofoam box which exhibits a hole in the lid, compression marks and material loss from use. There are compression marks and oil stains on the interior of the box from contact with the rifle. Overall the box is in Good condition. The box contains the original H&K instruction manual and a blank product registration card, both in Excellent condition. The rifle comes with one3-round and one 10-round box magazine. Both magazines show light signs of use and are in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This nearly new H&K Model 940 is chambered in .30-06 Springfield and has receptacles for H&K scope mounts. Importation of these rifles ceased 18 years ago and finding one in Excellent condition is becoming less common. The Model 940 has a robust roller-delayed semi-automatic similar to paramilitary rifles, but in a sporting stock. Deer season is approaching; this would be a great gun to take hunting!
