There are light nicks and minor scuffs on the bells, the glass is fairly clear, and overall rates in Very Good condition.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is an aftermarket McMillan one-piece black checkered fiberglass with semi-pistol grip, fluted Monte Carlo comb, and a black rubber decelerator buttpad. There are a few minor marks that can be seen on either side of the stock. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is well-defined. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad has minor wear at the heel. Overall, the stock rates in Fine condition, as not original to the gun.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its current metal finish. The barrel has scattered minor nicks primarily along the top. There is light finish loss on the bolt handle which has also a few light nicks. The screw heads are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 standard rifle manufactured originally in 1960 and later modified with a Custom Heavy Douglas Air Gauge Barrel chambered in .257 Weatherby Magnum and a McMillan fiberglass stock. The bore is mostly bright with sharp rifling and only a scant amount of minor fouling. The pre-64 Winchester Model 70 actions are prized by shooters and collectors alike for their smoothness and reliability, and this one is no exception. The chambering is ideal for mid-sized game like pronghorn or certain mountain cats. In its condition, this rifle will make a great addition to a Model 70 collection. Good luck and happy bidding!
