Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 94 44 MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel at the rear has an ovalled “WP” proof. The bottom of the receiver is marked “3438786M / MAG” at the front.
Barrel Length: 20″
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade atop a serrated riser that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed and filled with a blank dovetail. The side of the receiver is equipped with a full adjustable Williams peep aperture.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with a banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There is a sling stud in the belly and one banded on the mag tube. The wood shows infrequently dispersed compressions and light scratches. There is slight play between the forearm and mag tube. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows light wear and the checkering is sharp. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion but there is some stubborn fouling on the lands.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. There are some light scratches on the top of the barrel at the rear. There are some scattered faint marks throughout the receiver. The lever shows standard operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The rifle has a half-cock safety and a lever safety. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 94 Carbine in .44 Magnum that was made in 1970. As a rifle or carbine cartridge the .44 Magnum is sufficiently powerful for medium-sized game, yet fits easily into a compact, lightweight package. The concept of a dual-purpose handgun/rifle cartridge has been popular since the Old West, with cartridges like the .44-40 Winchester, whose “high-speed” rifle loadings were precursors to magnum loads. This rifle is in about Very Good-Fine condition with 94% of its metal finish remaining, a good bore and strong mechanics. Please see our photos and good luck!
