Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MK IV/SERIES ‘70 / GOVERNMENT MODEL / .38 SUPER AUTO CALIBER”, and features an adjacent Rampant Colt logo. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” and features the serial number “70S14213”.  The left side of the trigger guard is marked “0” and with the “VP” proof while the right side is marked “K”. The top of the chamber is marked “-COLT SUPER .38 AUTO- / MK.IV/SERIES ’70”.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a blade with a serrated rear face that is fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch that is dovetailed to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grips are two-piece stag grips with gold Colt medallions. The checkering is sharp and there is some light handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 96% of its finish. There are some scattered scuffs that have lightly thinned the finish. There is some thinning on the edges. There are some small spots of discoloration from previous oxidation on the sides of the hammer. There are some little marks through the finish, most noticeable on the sides of the slide at the muzzle. There is a little scrape on the bottom edge of the slide under the muzzle. There is some light thinning on the front strap. There is some wear on the corners of the rear sight. There is a light takedown mark on the frame. The markings are clear. The screwheads are lightly worn. Overall this pistol is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, it may need a thorough cleaning to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: Included is a blue case with no label, manual to a Series ’80, and a 9-round magazine.

Our Assessment: The 1911 is one of the best pistols ever designed, seeing use in the US Military for the better part of a century and dominating pistol shooting sports for decades. This is a Colt MK IV Series ’70 Government Model from 1975. The descendent of the original Model of 1911, it has updates of the 1911-A1 as well as a collet-style bushing to improve accuracy.
