Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “L. J. Gardner 2009”. The patchbox is marked “HL”. There are brass birds on the left and right side of the forend. The right side of the butt has a brass decoration. The both sides of the butt and forend have decorative engravings. The buttplate has some decorative marks on its top and bottom tangs.
Barrel Length: 42”, Octagonal. The rifle features a swamped barrel measuring approximately .92” at the flashhole, .78” at the center of the barrel and .74” at the muzzle.
Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a brass blade dovetailed to the muzzle end of the barrel. The rear sight is a “V”-notch dovetailed to the rear end of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stock is one-piece smooth wood featuring a brass forend cap, two ferrules, a slot for the included ramrod, a lock plate, straight wrist with finger grooves integral to the bottom tang, a patchbox, Monte Carlo style comb and metal semi-crescent buttplate. Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. There are some scuffs, nicks and handling marks on the metal surfaces of the rifle. Notably, the patchbox has had some of its browning wear off. The markings remain clear. The screwheads are serviceable. Overall, the rifle is in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this percussion rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
