Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 94 XTR 30-30 WIN. / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top rear of the barrel at the rear is marked with a circled “WP” proof. The front underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 20”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade dovetailed to a serrated, ramped base on the barrel in front of the forward barrel band. The rear sight is a “U” notched elevator sight dovetailed into the top of the barrel, the notch is fine-adjustable for elevation. The left side of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for a receiver sight (none included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and black checkered Winchester buttplate. There is a light mark or two on the buttstock. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has light wear, mostly at the heel and toe, and the checkering is sharp. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion in the bore. There is an M.E. reading of 0.0.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is no significant wear to speak of. The action shows faint operational wear. The screw heads are sharp, the plate screws show some oxidation. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half cock safety position and there is a functioning lever safety present. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 94 XTR with a 20” barrel chambered in .30-30 Winchester. This top eject rifle was manufactured in 1981 yet it looks as though it was just pulled out of the box for the first time. It is in about Excellent condition, appearing to have seen few, if any, trips in the field, and very well maintained. Carbines like this one are quick handling and capable of fast shot strings as compared to a bolt action with a long barrel. In addition, carbines are light, easy to carry and don’t have a tendency to snag on every bush you pass. This will make someone a great deer rifle for decades to come.
