Markings (AK09): The underside of the barrel has a warning over “RUGER, NEWPORT, NH USA”. The left side of the frame under the cylinder is marked “RUGER NEW VAQUERO® / .45 CAL.”. The right side of the frame under the cylinder is marked with the serial number, “SASS50779”. The back of the cylinder is marked “S” and is serial-matching, marked on the front “7 7 9”. Each grip plate is marked at the top with inset SASS medallions.
Markings (AK10): The underside of the barrel has a warning over “RUGER, NEWPORT, NH USA”. The left side of the frame under the cylinder is marked “RUGER NEW VAQUERO® / .45 CAL.”. The right side of the frame under the cylinder is marked with the serial number, “SASS50780”. The back of the cylinder is marked “S” and is serial-matching, marked on the front “8 8 0”. Each grip plate is marked at the top with inset SASS medallions.

Stock Configuration and Condition (AK09): The grips are two-piece checkered synthetic panels. Both panels have minor handling wear, but otherwise are free of any notable wear or damage. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Fine-plus condition.

The smooth borders have intermittent minor nicks and a few scuffs, and both panels have spots where the checkering is lightly worn. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips rate in Very Good-to-Fine condition.

Overall Condition (AK09): The metal has light nicks scattered throughout along with a few light scuffs on the top of the barrel. The cylinder has minor nicks and scuffs throughout as well as a light turn line. Pins are unmarred, and all markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Fine condition.
Overall Condition (AK10): The metal has light nicks scattered throughout as well as few light-to-moderate nicks on the top and left side of the barrel. The frame has several longer light nicks on the right side. The grip frame has light nicks throughout. The cylinder has a light turn line. Pins are unmarred, and all markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Very Good-to-Fine condition.
Mechanics (Both): The actions function correctly. The cylinders lock with minor play at each stop. We did not fire these revolvers. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories (Both): These revolver will ship in an oversized serial-matching red Ruger factory snap-case.
Our Assessment: The Ruger Vaquero is a fascinating revolver. In all ways that matter it is a timeless single-action revolver that evokes all manner of nostalgia for the old west, perhaps for more wild and dangerous times. But like always, Sturm, Ruger & Co. has a keen ability to recognize gaps in the market and fashion truly fine, long-lasting products to fill those gaps. Timeless though the Vaquero may appear, it dates back only to 1993, and was brought to market as the popularity of the Single Action Shooting Society grew and grew. This pair of New Vaquero’s are in fact marked with the SASS logo, and are a special set that serves as a commemoration of the sport. Both revolvers are in very good shape with clean bores and strong mechanics. Any collector would do well to scoop these up as they’ll make a great start for anyone interested in trying SASS out.
