Stock Configuration and Condition: The grips are two-piece black checkered rubber with finger grooves and gold Rampant Colt medallions. There are some scattered spots of discoloration in the rubber along with a few light scuffs. There are no rips or tears and the checkering is well defined. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good-to-Fine condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a bit of minor stubborn fouling.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The majority of the visible wear is stubborn fouling in the cylinder flutes, on the sides of the frame, and at the muzzle. There is minor scuff wear and a few minor nicks scattered across the metal. The cylinder has a turn line through the finish. The matte areas have a few light nicks and draglines. Screws are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. There is minor play on each chamber even with the trigger depressed. The double action pull is smooth, and the single action is light. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This Anaconda includes a serial-matching factory box along with a blue snap case, and various factory paperwork including the manual.
Our Assessment: Colt introduced the Anaconda built on a new, heavy “AA” frame to compete with the Ruger Redhawk and S&W Model 29 revolvers. Our impression is that the Anaconda probably offers a smoother double action pull than the Ruger and is more rugged than the S&W. This revolver is great for target shooting. As such a well built gun, it is likely to become a favorite addition to your Colt stable of range guns, but with its high condition, Colt collectors will have a hard time convincing themselves to put the first burn-ring on the cylinder. Good luck and happy bidding!
