The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75” and with the “Rampant Colt” logo. The underside of the frame at the grip frame is marked “SA99396”. The left side of each portion of the grip frame is marked “SA99396” under the grip. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and the left rear with “0”. The front face of the cylinder is marked “396” and the rear “45”. The inside of each grip panel has “9396” hand-written in red.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth walnut panels. The grips have a few scattered minor marks. They appear to have seen some sanding in the middle to give them a thinner profile. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Fine condition as refinished.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance is not really finish loss, but mostly just cloudiness in the finish of the grip straps and the right side of the frame. There are some other scattered minor scuffs and scratches including faint turn-wear on the cylinder, but these do not go through the finish. The action has minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: When disassembling to inspect markings, we found that the cylinder pin retainer cannot be disengaged with the two piece screwed together completely. We had to slightly unscrew the two portions to push the retainer far enough to the side to allow the cylinder pin to be removed. Otherwise, the action functions correctly and smoothly. This revolver’s cylinder has a fixed bushing. The lockup produces very little play on all six chambers. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:

-Two-piece blue cardboard Colt box with blue flock tray

Our Assessment: Everyone should have a Colt Single Action Army, and this would be a great one to add to any collection. Manufactured in 1992, this revolver is chambered in the classic .45 Colt cartridge with a 4 3/4″ barrel and nickel finish. The gun is in Fine condition with 95% of its metal finish and a great bore. This is THE classic sixgun in the classic SAA cartridge that would be just as great for the collector as for the shooter. Please see our photos and good luck!
