Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “GOVERNMENT / -MODEL-“, “COLT”, “AUTOMATIC / CALIBER 45” and with a rampant colt logo, the right is marked “100 YEARS / -OF SERVICE-“. The right of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” and with the serial number. The top of the barrel is marked “-COLT 45 AUTO-“. The left of the trigger guard is marked “VP” in triangle and “U”, the right is marked “9”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade with a white dot dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a Novaks square notch with two white dots dovetailed and screw-set to the rear of the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece double diamond wood. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is mostly sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition as not original to the gun.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is thinning on the frame safeties. There is some thinning on the grip frame. There are a few little scuffs and rubs, most noticeable on the matte portions. The screw heads have strong sockets. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide has minor play to the frame. The trigger is crisp. This pistol was made with a firing pin block safety (series ’80). We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a blue plastic Colt box with serial matching label, an assortment of factory paperwork including manual, cable lock, and one 8-round Colt magazine.

Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the United States military through two World Wars and several other conflicts, is still in use by some units today, and has become popular with law enforcement, competitors, and recreational shooters across the nation. The design has seen some updates including a firing-pin block safety, higher profile sights, and more ergonomic grips, but the basic design and fantastic trigger remain the same after more than a century. This example is a blued Government Model XSE Enhanced variant with extended beavertail grip safety, ambidextrous thumb safety, forward slide serrations, and undercut trigger guard. Included are the original box and a single magazine to get you started. This is a great, feature-rich pistol with a lot of after-market parts and accessories available.
