Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT’S MK IV/SERIES ‘70 / GOVERNMENT MODEL / .45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER”, and features an adjacent Rampant Colt logo. The right side of the slide is marked “COLT’S GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.” and features the serial number “70B03408”.  The left side of the trigger guard is marked “A” and wiht the “VP” proof while the right side is marked “A”. The top of the chamber is marked “-COLT .45 AUTO- / MK.IV/SERIES ’70”.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a blade with a serrated rear face that is fixed to the slide. The rear sight is a square notch that is dovetailed to the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grips are two-piece checkered wood with gold Colt medallions. The checkering is sharp and there is some light handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. Overall the grips are in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There are a few pits scattered in the bore.

Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 95% of its finish. There are some little spots of discoloration from previous oxidation on the sides of the hammer. There is a ding on the right side of the dust cover on the front edge. There are a few little scuffs and rubs on the matte portions, most noticeable on the front strap. There is some finish loss from previous oxidation on the left side of the frame at about the trigger guard. There are some little spots of oxidation and pinprick erosion on the slide stop. There are some little scuffs and light draglines.  The markings are clear. The screwheads are sharp. Overall this pistol is in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit is snug. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, it may need a thorough cleaning to meet your maintenance standards.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: One 7-round Colt magazine is included.

Our Assessment: This is a Colt MK IV Series ’70 Government Model from 1981. The descendent of the original Model of 1911, it has updates of the 1911-A1 as well as a collet-style bushing to improve accuracy. The pistol is in Very Good condition with some signs of light use and some erosion in the bore.
