Markings: The right side of the slide is marked ”GOLD CUP / NATIONAL MATCH” followed by a trophy cup. The left side of the slide is marked “SERIES ’80 COLT MKIV / GOLD CUP NATIONAL MATCH” and with a rampant colt. The right side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / GCT48651”. The barrel is marked “-COLT 45 AUTO N.M.-“. The left side of the trigger guard is marked with the “VP” proof and “A”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade that is dovetailed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a Colt branded Bo-Mar-Style square notch adjustable for windage and elevation in a base dovetailed to the rear of the slide. The top of the slide has a matte finish for glare reduction.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered black rubber with silver-colored medallions. There are a few light handling marks. The checkering is sharp. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are light handling marks. There is faint operational wear. The screwheads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit is tight. The trigger is crisp. This pistol has a firing pin block safety. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, it may need a thorough cleaning to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a blue plastic Colt box with a serial-matching label, paperwork including a manual, spare recoil spring, cable lock, and an 8-round magazine.

Our Assessment: Introduced as an off-the-shelf target pistol, Colt’s Gold Cup National Match 1911s have been a benchmark standard of quality for decades. There have been some variations since their introduction in the late ’50s, the Series ’70 introduced a collet barrel bushing, series ’80 a firing pin safety, and newer models offered various combinations of features, grips and sights. This is one of the later Series ’80 Gold Cup National Match pistols with a firing pin safety, Bom-Mar style rear sight, and stainless steel & blued construction. The pistol is in Excellent condition, showing hardly any wear.
