Barrel Length: 25 ½”
Sights / Optics: No front sight is provided. The rear sight has been removed, and replaced with a Redfield one-piece scope mount base, with two heavy duty flat head securing bolts.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a near-vertical pistol grip, Monte Carlo comb, cheek piece, and fore-grip that has been stippled to match the palm swell and pistol grip. The LOP measures 13.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttstock, which has three plastic spacers. The stock rates in about “Excellent” overall condition, with darkening on the fore grip and palm swell from use, as well as one black mark on the underside of the fore grip from an unknown origin. The left hand side of the stock, near the bottom of the buttstock has a penetrating scuff, and there are small compression marks on the underside of the butt, just aft of the pistol grip, and along the bottom edge of the pistol grip. The fore end bipod rail comes equipped with a plastic insert that helps to keep the accessory rails free from debris, and has checkering for traction. The rail has slight markings from the addition of a bipod (not provided). This stock is equipped with an aluminum (finished in light gray) magazine and trigger guard cap, which provides a snug fit for the magazine.
Type of Finish: The barrel, receiver, and structural hardware have a Parkerized light-gray finish, while the stock is finished with a light brown stain, which amplifies the grain and detail of this beautiful piece.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is free of fouling and the rifling is sharp. There is no apparent erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows slight wear of the finish on the bolt body, locking lugs and the base of the bolt handle. The barrel has four obscure losses of finish at approximately 17 ½” to 18” from the crown, near the underside of both the right and left hand sides of the barrel. We believe that this rifle had a different stock in which hardware was pressed into the barrel, but was removed to accommodate the target stock that now resides on this item. The screw heads are sharp, with very slight compression marks from removing and reinstalling the hardware. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about “Excellent” condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with one unmarked factory 10-round magazine. The fore end accessory rail has a plastic insert, and the bolt has an oversized knob. All accessories rate in about “Excellent” condition.
Our Assessment: Steyr-Mannlicher has a long history of dependability and accuracy. This specimen comes with a highly ergonomic target stock that completely floats the barrel, chambered in one of the most popular rounds on the market today. The action is a bit stiff, due to the limited use of this rifle. You will find that the stippled oversized pistol grip is very comfortable for medium to large right handed shooters, and the readily available option of mounting a scope and bipod is a definite plus. The buttstock has a three piece spacer system that can be reduced, or added to, depending on the preference of the shooter. This rifle’s stock trigger pull is roughly 4 lbs. 4oz, but is adjustable for the field, or the bench rest.
