Action Type: Lever Action with Full Length Tubular Magazine.

Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “1894 COWBOY LIMITED”, “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / **MODEL 1894CB – CAL. 357 MAG. OR 38 SPL.**” and “JM” proof at the rear. The right side is marked with a 2-line warning. The left side of the receiver at the bottom is marked with the serial number. The top of the bolt is marked “357”.

Barrel Length: 24” Octagonal

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall patridge style serrated blade with yellow paint that is dovetailed to the barrel. It is not original to the gun. The rear sight is a buckhorn with a reversible V/U-notch leaf with a diamond aim guide and an elevator that is dovetailed to the barrel. There is a Marbles peep aperture sight that is adjustable for elevation equipped to the top tang. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for an optic mount (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a steel nosecap, straight grip, straight comb and a checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate. The Marlin bullseye is present in the belly. The portion of the wood that was protected by the buttstock sleeve retains the normal satin finish, the other wood shows a higher gloss appearance though there are no other signs of refinishing. A sticker was applied by a previous owner that we could not remove without potentially damaging the finish. The forearm shows scattered little compressions and draglines. There is a white scuff on the left side of the belly. There are a few other light draglines and compressions on the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows faint wear. The stocks rate in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 93% of its metal finish. There is faint thinning on some of the leading edges. There is a small amount of oxidation on the bottom of the magazine tube. There are scattered nicks and scratches throughout the receiver. There on the right side of the receiver at the rer of the loading gate. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. A one-piece firing pin has been installed. The crossbolt safety is present and functional. The lever safety is present and functional. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a leather buttstock sleeve and an installed lever sleeve.

Our Assessment: This is a Marlin Model 1894 Cowboy Limited lever action rifle made in 2001 and chambered for .357 Magnum and .38 Special. The rifle is in about Fine condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. With .357 Magnum loads, the rifle can be used for hunting animals from small game and varmints up to and including coyotes.
