Markings: The rib is marked “B.C. MIROKU FIREARMS MFG. CO., KOCHI JAPAN.” The left side of the barrel flats is marked with a Miroku logo, “165020”, a proof marked “SP”, “NP”, “12”, “FC” and “70 m/m”. The right side of the barrel flats is marked with a Miroku proof, a proof marked “SP”, “NP”, “12”, “IMP”, “70 m/m” and “MADE IN JAPAN”. The left side of the water table features the serial number and a Miroku logo. The center of the water table is marked “5020”. The receiver is covered in decorative engravings. The bottom of the receiver is marked “MIROKU / -B.C.- / MODEL 550”. The bottom tang is marked with the serial number. The forend iron is marked with the serial number.

Choke: The left barrel is choked Full. The right barrel is choked Improved. Both chokes are fixed.

Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a metallic bead at the muzzle end of the rib.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood featuring a checkered forend which is detachable and a buttstock with a straight checkered wrist, straight comb, a brass stock oval on the belly and checkered wood buttplate. The stocks have some small scratches, nicks and handling marks. Notably, the left side of the butt and bottom of the forend have some small patches of white paint. Additionally, the left side of the butt has a small patch of finish which has worn off. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP is 14” from the front and 13 ¼” from the back trigger to the rear end of the buttplate. The drop at the comb is 1 ½” while the drop at the comb is 2 ?”. The checkering remains sharp. The buttplate has only minor handling wear. Overall, the stocks are in Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are both bright. There is no erosion in either bore.
Overall Condition: The shotgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some light handling marks, scratches and nicks. Notably, there is white paint residue on the bottom of the barrels. The markings remain clear. The screwheads are serviceable. Overall, the shotgun is in Very Good Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up with no play to the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Miroku model 550 is a 12 gauge top-break side by side shotgun chambered for 2 ¾” shells. The shotgun has some superficial wear but the case colored receiver and blued barrel remain impressive. Additionally, the shotgun is mechanically sound. This finely crafted Japanese shotgun is perfect for hunting and it can be used recreationally at the range. Good luck on your bid!
