Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “CIMARRON’S REPEATING ARMS.FREDERICKSBURG.TEXAS.U.S.A. / -KING’S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29.1866.OCTOBER16.1860-”, the top rear is marked “CAL. 357 MAG.” The lower left shoulder of the barrel is marked “MADE IN ITALY”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “CAT. 5991” over two Italian proof marks. The upper tang is marked “MODEL. 1873.”. The right side of the upper tang that is protected by the buttstock is marked “491”, the left side is marked with an Italian proof mark, the “CA” date code, the Uberti logo, and the serial number. The lower tang is marked “A. UBERTI-ITALY” and with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a white beaded that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a flat top reversible U/V-notch elevator sight that is dovetailed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered wood with a capped forearm, pistol grip, straight comb, and a crescent blue steel buttplate. The wood shows some scattered light draglines, scratches, and compressions that are most notable on the right side of the buttstock and around the bottom of the pistol grip. The checkering is sharp with a couple of minor interruptions and there are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 12 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the end of the plate. The plate shows scattered nicks, scratches, and finish loss that is heaviest at the heel and toe. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This gun retains about 70% of its metal finish. There is thinning throughout the barrel, mag tube, and the case coloring on the receiver is almost completely gone. There are light nicks and scratches throughout the various surfaces. The side plates are replacements and the right plate and loading gate show operational thinning. There is moderate operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to slightly disfigured with serviceable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The action has been short stroked. The lever safety lock is present. We have not fired this rifle. The lever is a bit stiff. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be required to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Uberti is known for making quality reproductions of classic firearms. This is a Model 1873 that is in about Very Good condition with a solid bore. The action has been short stroked, indicating that it has likely seen use in cowboy action shooting.
