Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore but there is some stubborn lead fouling that will come out with patient cleaning.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some little draglines from storage. There are light handling marks. The cylinder has a turn line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine Plus condition and would be Excellent if not for the defect on the grip.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. The cylinder lockup has minor side-to-side play on all chambers. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a serial matching box, cleaning kit, and paperwork including the manual.

Our Assessment: The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. The revolver is a 629-1 with a 3” barrel, Goncalo Alves combat grips, a round butt grip frame, and a stainless finish. This is just like the Lew Horton 629-1 that was made in 1895 but is from a few years later and is an overrun gun which they actually made less of. These have stunning material quality and are among some of the most coveted modern S&W revolvers on the market…if you can find one. The gun is in Fine-Excellent condition with light handling marks, a great bore, and strong mechanics. If you’re a Smith collector or just want a powerful revolver, this is a great gun to pick up. Please see our photos and good luck!
