Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “1894 COWBOY LIMITED”, “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / *****MODEL 1894CB – CAL. .45 COLT*****” and a poorly struck “JM” proof at the rear. The right side is marked with a 2-line warning. The left side of the receiver at the bottom is marked with the serial number. The top of the bolt is marked “45C”.

Barrel Length: 24” Octagonal

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall brass beaded blade with a serrated rear face that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a buckhorn with a reversible V/U-notch leaf with a white diamond aim guide and an elevator that is dovetailed to the barrel. The left side of the receiver has two drilled, tapped, and filled holes for mounting side sight (not included). The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for an optic mount (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a steel nosecap, straight grip, straight comb and a checkered hard rubber Marlin buttplate. The Marlin bullseye is present in the belly. The forearm shows scattered little compressions and draglines. There are some light scrapes on the belly. The grip checkering is sharp and the forearm checkering shows light wear. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows a few white scrapes at the toe. The stocks rate in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, just some faith fouling.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. There is faint thinning on some of the leading edges of the receiver and barrel. There are small freckles of oxidation at the front of the barrel and magazine tube. There are some infrequent nicks and scratches throughout the receiver and barrel. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The crossbolt safety is present and functional. The lever safety is present and functional. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Marlin Model 1894 Cowboy Limited lever action rifle made in 1997 and chambered for .45 Colt. The rifle is in about Fine condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. It is punctuated by a quick-pointing, straight-grip stock design and traditional Old West-style adjustable semi-buckhorn sights.
