Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / MOD. 336CS MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 30/30 WIN.”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver is marked with a circled “JM” proof. The right side of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The upper tang is marked “12009811”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded blade that is fixed to a serrated riser and screwed into the barrel. The rear sight is a flip-up semi-buckhorn blade with a U-notch leaf that has an elevator and is dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled in four places for mounting a scope. The left rear of the receiver is drilled, tapped, and filled in two places for a side-mounted sight. (No sight or scope included)

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with a banded forearm, capped pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and a hard rubber checkered Marlin buttplate. The Marlin Bullseye is present in the belly. The wood shows just a couple light draglines and compressions, the most notable being on the right side of the forearm. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the hard rubber buttplate. The buttplate shows scattered little nicks and marks with sharp checkering. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is an M.E. of approximately 1.6.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are hardly any significant marks on this rifle, just a few faint lines here and there. There is light operational wear on the hammer. The markings are clear. The screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever safety is present. There is also a push safety that blocks the hammer. The lever extends slightly past ninety degrees in the open position. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a 336CS carbine that was manufactured in 1988. It bears the JM proof mark and contains the Marlin Bullseye in the belly. These are sturdy, dependable lever action rifles that are revered in competition shooting and also make great hunting rifles.
