Markings: The left side of the slide has engraved oak leaves surrounding banners marked “1941”, “THE AMERICAN LEGION”, “WORLD WAR II VICTORY M1911A1”, “”FOR GOD AND COUNTRY””, “1945” and behind the serrations the motif continues with banners marked “15 MAR” and “1919”. The right of the slide is marked “GOVERNMENT MODEL”. The right of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A. / FR10850 AL0055”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the slide. The rear sight is a square notch dovetailed to the rear of the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth walnut with gold American Legion medallions. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action shows light operational wear. The slide’s finish has a plum hue. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this gun rates in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide has very light play to the frame. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Made in 1991 as a limited edition of 2,500 pistols to commemorate the American Legion, this Colt Government Model 1911 is a worthy tribute to the American Legion, which has been looking out for the interest of America’s veterans since 1919. The 1911 served those veterans as the standard issue sidearm for nearly a century with some variants still in use today. This example is decorated with the founding date and motto of the American Legion and will make a wonderful addition to any veteran’s collection as well as a fine gift.
