Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double-action trigger is smooth and the single action is crisp. The cylinder lockup has hardly any play on all chambers. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The 629 has been made in a variety of configurations since 1979 filling just about any role that could be asked of a .44 Magnum revolver. The revolver is a 629-1 with a 3” barrel, Goncalo Alves combat grips, a round butt grip frame, and a stainless finish. In 1985 about 5000 were made in this configuration and 1200 went to Lew Horton in 1986. These have stunning material quality and are among some of the most coveted modern S&W revolvers on the market…if you can find one. The gun is in Excellent condition with light handling marks, a great bore, and strong mechanics. If you’re a Smith collector or just want a powerful revolver, this is a great gun to pick up.
