Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number at the breech and “Remington / MODEL 700” at the midsection. The left side of the barrel is marked “WARNING-READ INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR SAFE OPERATION-FREE FROM / REMINGTON ARMS COMPANY, INC., ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.” followed by “280 REM.”. The right side of the barrel is marked with magnaflux, proof, and test marks at the breech. The bolt is matched to the rifle and the bottom is marked “7488”. The receiver has scroll engraving.

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. There is a pair of Leupold-style bases installed on the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is checkered black synthetic with a pistol grip, straight comb, cheekpiece, sling studs, and a black rubber buttpad. There are some little gauges above the rear sling swivel stud. There are some little scuffs and scratches, some of the most noticeable are on the right side of the buttstock. The checkering is mostly sharp with a few scattered little nicks and scrapes. The LOP measures 13 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the solid black rubber buttpad. The buttpad has some light wear from standard use. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are some rubs and scuffs on the barrel that have caused smooth spots, most noticeable on the bottom towards the muzzle. There is a small scrape on the edge of the muzzle. There are some little marks on the edges of the trigger guard. The bolt handle has some scuffs and marks. The bolt has standard operational wear. The markings are strong. The screw heads are lightly worn with strong slots. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Remington 700 needs no introduction. It has been one of the most popular bolt action rifles in America for decades, seeing use in target shooting, hunting, and in law enforcement. The 700 has been made in just about any configuration you can imagine, and if it hasn’t the parts are out there for you to do it yourself. This example has a 24″ barrel chambered for .280 Remington, a checkered black polymer stock with a straight comb, stainless finish, and a detachable magazine. This one will be great for target shooting and hunting as soon as you install an optic of your choice.
