Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the “SR” logo above “SURGEON RIFLES”.The right side of the barrel is marked “338” at the breech. The right side of the receiver is marked with the serial number. The rail on the receiver is marked “PRAGUE / OK / MODEL / 1581”. The top of the bolt is marked with the “SR” logo above “XL”. The rear of the cocking piece is marked “XL”. The right side of the stock at about the chamber is marked “AX AICS SURGEON XL”. The front of the muzzle brake is marked “FRONT TOWARD ENEMY”.
Barrel Length: 26” Fluted, 27 1/2″ to Muzzle Brake
Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver has an integral 30 MOA 1913 rail with a pair of rings installed that hold a Nightforce ATACR 5-25×56 scope with a Mil-R reticle. The scope has a few light handling marks plus scattered rubs the glass is clear. The scope rates in about Fine Plus condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is an Accuracy International AXAICS stock with a tactical pistol grip, folding buttstock, adjustable comb, adjustable length of pull, keymod forend, quick detach sling mounts, and a rubber buttpad. The stock has an aftermarket skull finish. There are a few little rubs and light handling wear. There are a few scattered spots of finsih loss. The LOP measures approximately 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the solid black rubber AI recoil pad. The recoil pad exhibits some light wear from use and general handling wear. The stock rates in about Fine Plus overall condition.
Type of Finish: Sniper Gray Cerakote with Skull Camo Stock
Finish Originality: The barreled action is Original, the stock has an aftermarket finish that looks like a hydro dip.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few little rubs and scuffs that have caused little smooth spots. There are standard operational marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the previously described Nightforce scope, Harris SL bipod, rolling hard case, and a pair of 5-round magazines.
Our Assessment: In 2012, the United States special forces unit reached out to the industry for an innovative approach to replace the existing sniper rifles with a new Precision Sniper Rifle. This new rifle needed to meet the demands of some of the world’s most elite snipers. Surgeon Rifles answered the call! Surgeon custom designed and built a PSR package featuring a Surgeon .338 Lapua rifle utilizing the 1581XL action, an Accuracy International AXAICS chassis, and a muzzle brake to help tame recoil. This one is a Remedy XL Model, and while not the same as the special forces model it uses the same stock, action, caliber, and of course Surgeon quality. This one has been well looked after and has minimal wear. If you truly want the best for long range shooting you cant do much better than this. Please see our photos and good luck!
