Markings: The top tang is marked “L63269B”. The water table is marked with Italian proofs. The bottom of the receiver is marked “P. BERETTA / GARDONE”, “MADE IN ITALY” and “Mod. S686 SPECIAL”. The trigger plate is marked “PATENTED”. The guard is marked with the Beretta logo. The receiver has foliate scroll engraving that is continued on the guard, lever, and forend iron. The sides of the receiver are also marked “P. BERETTA”. The left of the top barrel is marked “P. Beretta – Gardone V.T. – ITALY -” followed by the “PB” logo and “SPORTING / 12GA. 2 ¾ AND 3 IN. SHOT SHELLS – 28 IN.”. The right of the top barrel is marked “MADE IN ITALY”. Below the forend, the left of each barrel is marked with Italian proofs, the bottom barrel also has “-EXCELSIOR- HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL-”. The monoblock is marked with the serial number, Italian proofs and “BD” in box date code. The bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “57012”, “BB”, “M”, and an oval. The forend iron is marked “63269”.

Choke: The barrels have been threaded for chokes and are installed with Modified over Cylinder. No additional chokes are included.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a white bead in a base at the front of the rib. The rib is checkered and serrated for glare reduction

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a grooved forend, pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and a black rubber Beretta buttpad. Most of the imperfections are on the buttstock in the form of minor compressions, draglines, and light scratches, most notable on the left side of the buttstock and on the belly. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 14 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and 13 5/8” to the wood. The drop at comb measures approximately 1 3/8” and 2 1/8” at the comb. The cast is about neutral. The pad has scattered light wear and has firmed slightly. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion, the bottom bore has some stubborn fouling.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains approximately 93% of its metal finish. There is some light surface oxidation on areas including the top of the rib and top barrel, the forend iron, the guard, and on the lever. The barrel shows some light marks throughout. There are dings around the muzles. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. The safety does not engage automatically when opening the action but functions properly when manually set. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Beretta 686 Special in 12 gauge that has a 28” barrel set which has been threaded to accept removable chokes. Chambered for 12 gauge with a 28? barrel and capable of accepting a variety of chokes, this is a versatile gun that will be suitable for upland birds and challenging yourself on the Skeet fields. This shotgun is in Fine condition with signs of light use. This is a well made Italian double gun made by one of the best, it will serve its new owner well for years to come.
