Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / * * * * MOD. 1895CB CAL. 45/70 GOVT. * * * *” and is also marked with the “JM” proof near the receiver. The right shoulder of the barrel is marked with Marlin’s two-lined warning. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 26″, Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe sight with an interchangeable reticle that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight has been removed and the dovetail has been filled. The rear of the receiver is installed with a fully adjustable Williams peep aperture. There are an additional two drilled, tapped, and filled holes at the front of the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a capped forearm, straight grip, straight comb, checkered black hard rubber Marlin buttplate, and Marlin “bullseye” in the belly. There are one or two hardly notable marks in the wood. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows some minor bubbling with discoloration at the heel and toe and has sharp checkering. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some faint fouling in the grooves.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are a few minor marks throughout the barrel. The loading gate has some minor scratches. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. The lever safety is present and functions properly. The receiver also contains a push safety that blocks the hammer from hitting the pin. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a beautiful Model 1895CB bearing the JM proof mark. Manufactured in 2003, this one is part of the last few years of production before Remington took over Marlin in 2006.
