Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER MODEL 70 7MM REM. MAG.- / -MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CT U.S.A.-“, the right is marked “-CLASSIC SUPER GRADE-“. The top-rear of the barrel is marked with an ovalled “WP” proof. The left side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-”. The right side of the receiver’s chamber ring is marked “G36238”. The bolt body is hand-scribed “G238”. The floorplate is marked “-SUPER GRADE-“.

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped with two-piece Leupold-style bases and rings holding a Burris Signature Series 4-16x scope with ballistic mil-dot reticle. The scope has some light scratching on the eyepiece with fairly clear glass, in Very Good-Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered walnut with a throughbolt, capped pistol grip, black nosecap, straight comb with cheekpiece, orange rubber Winchester buttpad, and Super-Grade style sling plates inlaid front and rear. The stock has no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad has light wear at the heel and toe. The stock rates in Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is some minor scuffing on the floorplate. The trigger guard’s finish has a plum hue. The action shows minor operational wear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the top-rear of the bolt. Pushed to the front, the safety is OFF. If pulled to the rear all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 70 Classic Super Grade rifle chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum. The Super Grade has nicer-grain wood with a nosecap, grip cap, cheekpiece and nicer checkering than would be found on the Standard Rifles and was the top of the line in the original Model 70 series. The Model 70 Classic series re-introduced the control-feed bolt of the originals. This example has been equipped with a nice Burris 4-16x scope and is in Excellent condition. Chambered in the popular 7mm Remington Magnum cartridge, this rifle is suitable for hunting just about any game in North America. This is a classic rifle in a great hunting cartridge that is ready to bag some game. It is also a beautiful gun which would be a nice addition to a Winchester collection.
