Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade in a dovetail slot. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn leaf sight on a slide-step elevator, also in a dovetail.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are oil finished and machine checkered walnut in a deluxe pattern, with pistol grip, steel forend cap, smooth metal shotgun-style buttplate and straight comb. There is no wear we can find save one or two rubs… we would assume this has only been out of the box to complete paperwork upon delivery to the original owner. The LOP measures 13 ¾” from the front of the trigger to the back of the 99% condition buttplate. The stocks rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Factory Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only one or two surface marks from handling, storage and maybe dry firing once or twice. This is about as sharp as they come… The screw heads are unturned. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions properly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The original box is included and is in Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 1886 Deluxe made in Italy in 2019. The 1886 followed up the 1876, providing a much stronger action which was able to withstand larger and more powerful cartridges such as the .45-70, the issue rifle cartridge of the U.S. Army at the time. The design would later be shrunk for the model 1892. This modern reintroduction has the same action but with a tang-mounted safety.

This one appears to have seen little or no use. It retains 99% of its metal finish with a great bore and would make a great addition to any collection. With its 26? octagonal barrel, checkered deluxe walnut stocks, beautiful case color receiver, and .45-70 chambering, this rifle is a beautiful as it is potent.

If you’re looking for a .45-70 lever gun, you can’t do much better than this.
