The top of the receiver has two pairs of drilled and tapped holes that are filled with optic mounts that have attached a Bushnell Sportview Quad-Power 2.5-10x scope with a duplex reticle. The scope body has light scuff wear mostly on the objective bell, the dial has some light finish loss at the 2.5 position, there are catered minor nicks, the glass is fairly clear, and overall, the scope rates in Very Good condition.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is one-piece smooth wood with a checkered forend, checkered pistol grip with black cap, fluted monte-carlo comb with cheek-piece, and an orange rubber Winchester buttpad. There are sling swivels on the belly of the buttstock and the underside of the forend. Around the grip and comb there are light dings and some minor draglines. The forend nose has some minor scuff wear. There is a crack on the right side, approximately 1 1/2” long that runs from the grip into the bolt-handle channel. The checkering is well-defined. There are no chips. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad has light wear at the heel and toe with a few dark spots. Overall, the stock is in about Very Good-to-Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The action has light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine condition, and if not for the small crack in the grip, it rate in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the bolt. Pulled to the rear, the safety is ON, locking both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, only the trigger is blocked. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: The scope as described above is included.

Our Assessment: Hemingway said of firearms, “The rifle and the pistol are still the equalizer when one man is more of a man than another,” Holding this Model 70 in hand, it’s hard to deny the logic. The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle which has been a staple of hunters—and even writers such as Hemingway—for more than 80 years. This example is a Classic Super Express with a blued finish, 24” barrel, and checkered monte-carlo comb stock. The wear on the buttpad and the small crack in the grip indicate this rifle saw some use, but beyond that, there is little wear to speak of. This Model 70 is beautiful, with an inky dark blued barrel and a clean, bright bore. Given the crack, we feel the rifle rates in Very Good-to-Fine overall condition and will serve any serious hunter well. Please see our photos and good luck!
