Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / MOD. 1894CS MICRO-GROOVE CAL. 357 MAG. OR 38 SPL.” and “JM” proof at the rear. The right side is marked with Marlin’s two-line warning. The upper tang is marked with the serial number. The top of the bolt is marked “357”.

Barrel Length: 18.5”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn with a U-notch leaf and an elevator that is dovetailed to the barrel. Equipped to the top of the receiver via a weaver style rail and two rings is a Bushnell Sportview scope with 3-9x magnification and a duplex reticle. The external surface of the scope shows a few minor nicks and a light scratch at the front. The lenses are clear. The scope rates in about Fine overall condition. The left of the receiver is drilled, tapped and filled for a peep sight (not included).

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with a banded forearm, straight grip, straight comb and a raised checker firm rubber Marlin buttpad. There is a sling stud in the belly and forearm band. The Marlin bullseye is present in the belly. The wood shows a notable scratch in the right side of the belly. There are a couple of other lighter scratches on the left side of the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttpad shows hardly any noticeable wear. The stocks rate in about Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few barely perceptible marks on the mag tube. There is faint operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The crossbolt safety is present. The lever safety functions properly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The previously mentioned scope and a hammer extension are included.

Our Assessment: This is a Marlin Model 1894CS lever action rifle made in 1991 and chambered for .357 Magnum and .38 Special. The rifle is in about Fine-Excellent condition. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. With its short barrel, the rifle is light and easy to handle. With .357 Magnum loads, the rifle can be used for hunting animals from small game and varmints up to and including coyotes. Please see our photos and good luck!
