Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece walnut with grooved slide handle, pistol grip, straight comb, orange rubber Ithaca buttpad, and a sling stud in the belly (the other is mounted to the bottom of the barrel’s magazine tube hanger). The oil finished stocks have some light scuffs. The left side of the wrist has a little ding and a light scratch. There is a hairline crack on the bottom of the wrist at the tang. There is a small chip loss on the bottom right of the wrist at the receiver, it has been oiled over. The LOP measures 14 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The Ithaca pad has some light wear, no major defects. The black spacer is slightly off-center. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There there are a couple of spots of light surface erosion. There are some spots of oxidation, most noticeable at the muzzle. There are tool marks at the front sight and the base of the front sight protrudes into the bore.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are scattered scuffs and rubs that have lightly thinned the finish. The action shows light operational wear. The screw heads are sharp to tool marked with serviceable slots. The markings are mostly clear a few of the proofs and features of the game scene are light. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This shotgun will slam-fire as designed. The shotgun ejects out the bottom of the receiver. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is an olive canvas sling, it has light wear and rates in about Excellent condition.

Our Assessment: The Ithaca 37 enjoys a good reputation for its durability, ambidextrous ejection design, smooth action and of course for being one of few pump shotguns which can be “slam-fired”, meaning that with the trigger depressed, pushing the slide handle forward and locking the action will allow the chambered round to be fired without needing to reset the trigger. In addition to seeing use by bird and deer hunters for generations, the Model 37 has served in WWII, the Vietnam War and in countless law enforcement agencies across the country. This one is a riot gun with a 20″ barrel and oil finished stocks. It looks to have seen little use and is waiting for a place in your collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
