Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. ILION, NEW YORK. U.S.A. / * * * * MODEL 1895D CAL. 45/70 GOVT. * * * *” and at the rear with a triangle and “D0”. The left side of the receiver is marked with a QR code and the serial number “MR19836J”.
Barrel Length: 16.25” Threaded
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall blade with a white line on the rear face that is integral to a raised base and screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a circular aperture dovetailed to a base which is screwed at the rear of the installed XS Lever Rail which is an 11” picatinny-style rail that spans from about med-barrel to the rear end of the receiver (no scope is included).
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece black wood with black webbing finish that feature a capped enlarged forend, semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, sling stud in the belly and forearm cap, and a black rubber Marlin buttpad. The stocks show no perceptible imperfections nor notable wear. There are no cracks in the stock. The LOP measures 13 1/2” and 12 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and wood, respectively. The pad shows only light rub wear. The stocks rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some faint draglines at the end of the barrel and magazine tube. There are some light handling marks on the receiver. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. A black canvas string lever wrap is installed. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in its original serial matching box with paperwork including a manual, a black canvas-string sling in plastic wrapping, safety lock and key, an offset hammer spur, and a screw-on flash guard. The box shows very light wear, in about Fine-Excellent condition. The slings does not appear to have been used, in about Excellent condition. The flash guard and hammer spur are in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This is the Model 1895 Dark from Marlin Firearms Co.. Rating in about Fine-Excellent condition with 98% finish remaining, it is evident that this rifle has not seen much use in the field, that or it was extremely well cared for by its previous owner. It comes with all the basics including a sling and an installed rail requiring only your optic of choice and it will be ready to hunt with. Please see our photos and good luck!
