Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “FREEDOM ARMS .454 CASULL / FREEDOM, WYOMING U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. 4228607 / 4126953”. The bottom of the frame is marked “FS-D222”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “SD222”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped blade with an orange insert and is set on a smooth ramped base fixed to the barrel. The front sight is secured with an allen head at the front of the base. The rear sight is a flat-topped square notch sight with two white dots and is adjustable for windage and elevation and screwed to the top strap. The rear sight has some minor play.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are smooth wood. There are a few light marks on the bottom edges. There are some light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish. Light handling and storage marks are scattered over the surfaces. There are some scuffs that have caused slightly smooth spots, most noticeable on the left of the barrel towards the front. There are a few marks on the bottom of the barrel from contact with the ejector rod tab. The cylinder shows a light dragline. There is operational wear on the hammer and trigger. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup produces barely perceptible movement. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Freedom Arms makes what are probably the highest quality single action revolvers in the world, and this single action Model 83 revolver is no exception. The action and trigger pull are exceptional. The lockup is solid with hardly noticeable movement. The stainless finish with the unfluted cylinder is very appealing to the eye as well as functional in being nearly impervious to the elements. This example has a 7 1/2″ barrel, adjustable sights and is chambered for the .454 Casull cartridge. Paired with Freedom Arms’ quality, this is a really nice package for the handgun hunter, outdoorsman, or Freedom Arms fan. Please see our photos and good luck!
