Markings: The left side of the frame has two Italian proof marks and the “BI” date code. The front right face of the frame is marked “3818”. The right side of the grip, just rear of the frame, is marked “DQC”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “SH9590”, “dp” within a circle, and “PEDERSOLI-ITALY CAL. 54 / BLACK POWDER ONLY”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall blade slotted into a base that is dovetailed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a flip up elevator with a sliding U-notch leaf. The elevator is marked 2-8 and is dovetailed and screwed to the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a straight grip, straight comb, and a case colored carbine style buttplate. The stocks show some dispersed draglines and fine scratches, the most notable ones being on the left side of the buttstock. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” and 13” from the fronts of the triggers to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows a few very light marks. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is deep and sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows a few fine scratches mid barrel on the right side. Certain edges of the receiver show thinning through the case coloring. The screw heads are lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This is a clean Pedersoli reproduction of a Sharps 1863 Sporting rifle that was manufactured in 1997. The rifle is in about Fine condition with 96% finish remaining. This rifle would make do for hunting as well as some informal target shooting at the range. It is also commonly used for reenactments. Please see our photos and good luck!
