Our Assessment: The original Auto Mag was a .44 Magnum semi-automatic, perhaps most famous for its use in the Dirty Harry movie “Sudden Impact”. Inspector Callahan had already made the Smith & Wesson Model 29 iconic for its use in the Dirty Harry franchise, but for “Sudden Impact”, Harry updated to a semi-automatic, still “the most powerful handgun in the world”, still chambered for the .44 Magnum. Unfortunately, the Auto Mag was already out of production by the time the film premiered and while there was a large demand for the pistol, there weren’t any more being made! Enter the Baby Auto Mag. Based on the AMT Lightning .22 LR semi-auto, the Baby Auto Mag had the iconic ventilated rib of its big brother but was quite a bit more pleasant to shoot, not to mention being cheaper to feed. Only 1,001 Baby Auto Mag pistols were produced by AMT, which makes any BAM collectible in its own right. The pistol is in Fine condition with a great bore and strong mechanics. Whether you’re a fan of “Sudden Impact”, Auto Mag pistols in general, or are a die-hard AMT fan, this pistol would make a fantastic addition to any collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
