Barrel: – “CBI 653448 8/08 3K” – A modern production Criterion barrel. Not listed in our reference material (page 63).

The stock and sights are described below.

Barrel Length: Approximately 24 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a fully adjustable aperture sight set between two protective wings. The windage knob is marked “LEFT arrow” twice and “DRC”. The elevation knob is marked “2 4 6 8 10 11” on the edge.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. Cleaning gear is stored in the butt. The buttplate shows light scrapes. The wood shows scuffs and small handling marks. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp & deep. There is no erosion. The bore shows an M.E. of 1. The throat shows a T.E. of 1.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish as refinished. The bottom rear of the receiver has some surface erosion showing through the new finish. The metal shows scuffs & light scrapes. The top rear of the receiver shows scrapes & light thinning. The right side of the receiver and front of the bolt show thinning from cycling. The markings on the metal are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a total of 7 clips; four 8 round clips, one 5 round clip, one 2 round clip and 1 single round clip. They show scrapes & small scratches. They are in about Very Good condition. The rifle has a leather sling attached. The metal shows scrapes and the leather shows a small area of surface cracking along the bottom. Overall it is in about Fine condition.
Cleaning tools are stored in the butt. They include a 4 piece cleaning rod & loop (stored in a green pouch), plastic oiler tube, combo tool, and a grease pot. These are in about Very Good Plus condition.

Our Assessment: This Springfield M1 Garand was made back in 1942. It has since been rebuilt using Springfield parts, a new production stock and a new production Criterion barrel. The rifle looks great and the bore is strong & bright. It comes with a sling, cleaning gear and 7 clips. This M1 Garand will add to your collection and should do well out at the range.
