Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “338 Win” near the receiver. The right of the chamber ring is marked “G20270”. The left of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-“. The rear of the bolt body is marked “270”. The floorplate is marked “-SUPER GRADE-“

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. Equipped to the top of the receiver via a two-piece rail and two rings is a Leupold Vari-X scope with 3-10x magnification and a duplex reticle. The scope shows some scattered fine marks and the lenses are clear. The scope rates in about Fine condition.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with a capped pistol grip, straight comb with cheek piece, sling stud front and rear, and solid brown rubber Decelerator buttpad. The stock shows little to no wear. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13″ and 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the wood and pad, respectively. The pad has only light wear and is soft. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: A Shilen barrel is installed The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The receiver has some scattered faint scratches. The bolt handle has taken a plum hue. The screw heads are generally sharp. The markings are clear. Knurling on the bolt handle and serrations on the safety are sharp. This rifle is in about Fine-Excellent overall condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Winchester’s Model 70 has long been known as “The Rifleman’s Rifle”, and for good reason. This example is a Super Grade with a Shilen barrel chambered for 338 Winchester. With roughly 97% finish remaining, this rifle is in about Fine-Excellent condition. This rifle was custom built by Dan Dowling.
