Markings: The underside of the receiver is marked “BROWNING”. The left water table is marked with a circled “H”. The serial number is under the lever. The left side of the left barrel is marked “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE JAPAN”. The right side of the right barrel is marked “B-S/S SPECIAL STEEL 12 GA – SHELLS – 2 ¾””. The flat on the underside of the left barrel is marked “13424”, a circled “H”, a circled “SP”, “NP”, 12”, “26” and “**” (MOD). The right barrel flat is marked with a circled “SP”, “NP”, 12”, “26” and “**_” (IC). The left barrel in front of the flat is marked “3” and the right barrel “5”. The top surface of the forearm iron is marked “13424”. The trigger guard, sides of the frame, and lever are scroll engraved.

 

Barrel Length: The barrels are 26” in length.

 

Choke: Left: Modified, Right: Improved Cylinder, both Fixed

 

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a bead at the front of the rib. The rib has a flat finely serrated surface to reduce glare.

 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a beavertail forend, pistol grip, and fluted straight comb. There are some scattered dings and compressions on the forend. There are some scattered little tiny compressions and draglines on the buttstock. There are a few deeper compressions on the belly of the buttstock. There is a scratch on either side of the wrist next to the receiver. There are a few more scratches. There are some marks that have removed small light portions of surface wood, most noticeable on the left of the buttstock up by the heel and on the comb at the heel. The checkering is mostly strong. The LOP measures 14 ¼” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate shows some little nicks and scratches, mainly at the heel. The stocks rate in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with no erosion.

 

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. The bottom of the receiver has some little tiny freckles of finish loss, mainly on the edges. There are a few little marks on the trigger guard and there is thinning on the edges. The trigger guard has some play to the receiver and the front has broken off from the receiver. There are a few light scuffs and little marks on the barrels. There is some thinning on the edges of the muzzles. There are a few scratches on the barrels, most noticeable on the left barrel on the top towards the muzzle and on the chamber. The screw heads are sharp to very lightly worn. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine condition.

 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is a single non-selective trigger. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The B-S/S is a double-barrel shotgun made by Miroku in Japan for the Browning Arms Company. It has the classic styling of the Citori series in the classic side-by-side configuration of the earliest double-barrel shotguns. This example is in Fine condition with about 96% of its finish, bright bores, and strong mechanics. It was produced in 1971-1975 before Browning switched their serial number scheme to their current two-letter date code. The gun shows honest wear from use in the field but still locks up tight with bright bores. It would be great for fast-moving upland birds and would make a nice challenge on the skeet field.
