Markings: The left side of the shank is marked “USE ONLY / 7mm WBY MAG. / (WEATHERBY MAG.)”. The right side of the chamber ring is marked with the serial number “H242735”. The left side of the receiver is marked “MARK V / U.S. PATENT NO. 3,013,355” and “Weatherby / SOUTH GATE CALIF. MADE IN JAPAN”. The rear left of the receiver is decorated with pin motifs. The bottom of the bolt handle is marked “735”.

Barrel Length: 24”, 26” to the end of the flash guard.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. Equipped to the top of the receiver via a picatinny rail and two Vortex rings is a Vortex Viper scope with 6-24x magnification and a VMR-1 (MRAD) reticle. The scope is clean with just a few barely perceptible handling marks and the lenses are clean and clear. Overall, this scope rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one piece skipline checkered walnut with a high gloss finish, a raised Monte Carlo comb, a capped pistol grip and cheekpiece. There is a ventilated brown rubber recoil pad marked “Weatherby” mounted on the butt with a black spacer. There is a rosewood grip cap with tan spacer and a tan diamond shaped piece of wood inlet into its bottom surface. There is also a rosewood nose cap with a tan spacer. There are sling swivel studs in the belly and on the forend. There are some hardly notable handling marks and a few tiny compressions. The checkering is strong and intact. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2” and 12 1/2” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad and wood, respectively. The pad shows light wear and is soft. The stock is in Very Fine-Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are some tiny freckles of oxidation on the rear part of the barrel, under the scope. There is also some light surface oxidation on the flash guard. There are other infrequent hardly notable marks scattered about the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger is light and crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the previously mentioned Vortex scope.

Our Assessment: This is a beautiful Weatherby Mark V that was manufactured in Japan by Howa. This rifle has an excellent bore and a clean, light trigger. Another sweet addition is the Vortex Viper scope that is also in Fine-Excellent. There are small amounts of oxidation but they aren’t deep into the finish and will likely come off with some oil and very light cleaning with steel wool. All this thing needs is a decent sling and it will be ready to hunt with. Please see our photos and good luck!
