Action Type: Single or Double Action Revolver with Swing-Out Cylinder, This one has been converted to Single Action Only but the Double Action sear is included.

Markings: The right side of the currently installed barrel shroud is marked “.357 Magnum ctg.”. The right side of the frame is marked “DAN WESSON FIREARMS / NORWICH, NY U.S.A. / SERIAL NO: DW900948”. The two additional barrel shrouds are marked “.357 MAGNUM CTG.”

Barrel Length: 6” with Vent Rib Shroud, 8” with Railed Shroud, and 3”. All of the barrel shrouds have a full underlug.

Sights / Optics: All of the barrel shrouds have a serrated ramped front sight. The 6” and 8” barrel shrouds are pinned and the 3” is fixed. The rear sight is a square notch sight adjustable for windage and elevation, pinned to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece laminate wood with finger grooves. The grip has light handling wear with no major defects. The grip rates in about Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless. The 8” and 3” Barrels are Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: All bores are bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the 2” or 6” bore, the 8” bore has some spots of light surface erosion.

Overall Condition: This handgun set retains about 98% of its metal finish. The metal surfaces have only a few scattered light draglines. There is a light turn line on the cylinder. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The hex-head screws are lightly worn. The markings are clear. The pinheads are unmarred. Overall, the revolver set is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action has been converted to single action only, the double action sear is included. The action functions correctly. The single action is light and crisp. The cylinder has light play on all six chambers. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a black serial matching case, the previously described barrel assemblies, double action sear, allen keys, barrel feeler gauge, and barrel wrench.

Our Assessment: This is a Dan Wesson Model 715 with replaceable barrels and grips, which was a revolutionary concept from Dan Wesson. Not since the original open-top percussion revolvers from Colt was it so easy for the user to change the barrel on a revolver. This package allows for conversion of the same revolver into a compact concealed carry piece to a target revolver. This one comes with 3”, 6”, and 8” barrels in its original case. Though not as popular as some other manufacturers, Dan Wesson earned a reputation, which continues to this day, of fine quality craftsmanship and innovative design.
